About the Venue

Only 40 miles from Edinburgh, Marchmont is a calm retreat, nestled in a deep rural location, surrounded by nature but a convenient gathering place standing just 19 miles from Berwick-upon-Tweed’s excellent train connections to London (3h 36m), Newcastle (45m), and York (1h 44m).

Our reception rooms offer a wide variety of options; including a fully equipped Meeting Room, wood panelled Music Room and beautifully restored Saloon and Drawing Room. Our dream is to inspire creative purpose and find ways to challenge ourselves as businesses, artists, makers and creators to shape a world that we'd love to be a part of.

Executive Off-Sites and Creative Retreats

Executive teams will find inspiration in a unique venue that is imbued with a purpose driven mission and an entrepreneurial story that will energise and excite a team to dream of what is possible. Our inspiring meeting room is filled with art by leading British artists such as Paolozzi, David Nash, Lynn Chadwick, Theadora Ballantyne Way, Peter Hayes and Tod Hanson.

We especially welcome purpose driven business with a passion for craft, beauty and sustainability, where you will find a deep story of supporting creativity across many layers of the House and Estate.

At Home

During your stay we offer a variety of relaxed or formal dining options in one of our five dining rooms, sitting alongside works of art by Antony Gormley, Barbara Hepworth, The Scottish Colourists and Burne Jones. As a creative house there is live music to help you relax; we can arrange cello, harp and even four hands piano in our Drawing Room.

For those of you with more time, we encourage guests to explore our Artist Studios and Workshops and can arrange private tours of our Collection along with the gardens and outdoor sculptures. We can also organise pottery, print and silversmithing classes or demonstrations in our creative spaces. There are honesty bars, a film room and ‘old-school’ indoor entertainment in the form of a snooker table, books and games, not to mention some wonderful walking and running loops in the surrounding countryside for those who prefer the outdoors.

Importantly, for those seeking valuable time away from the rush, Marchmont is set in a beautiful, calm landscape where the estate land management focus is on sustainability and environmental guardianship. The Scottish summer nights merge into the dawn, and in winter our dark skies show a canopy of stars.

Accommodation

Outstanding accommodation is available in ten beautifully restored guest bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. Eight of our guest rooms are located on a self-contained floor which includes a kitchen, dining room and cosy living room, and can be reached by lift from a private entrance.

There are also four ‘staff’ bedrooms that can be let additionally and two beautifully furnished cottages within easy walking distance of the House.

Set at the heart of the estate, the house offers privacy and seclusion, but has all the modern conveniences required, including the latest in central heating and hot water systems, and fibre broadband.

The house is available, in-part or as a whole, for private or corporate lettings.
