To co-incide with our creative Open Studios weekend we are opening the House to guests for the chance to spend a Weekend Away at Marchmont House.
Staying in our Lorimer rooms on the Attic Floor, guests will have the chance to relax in our luxury bedrooms with a full Marchmont breakfast each morning before wandering down to our Open Studios event or exploring the wider area of the beautiful Scottish Borders.
For those who want to explore the House we will have the option of a dedicated guest tour available with our Curator, Francis Raeymaekers. This extended two hour tour concludes with champagne and canapés on our terrace. Choose the Curator's Tour option when booking.
The bedrooms on our Lorimer designed attic floor are decorated with furnishings and textiles from our Arts & Craft collection. All rooms have king sized beds and en-suite bathrooms with showers and/or baths and one room with a beautiful hand carved four poster bed. The perfect place to relax after a day of studio visits and creative inspiration.
A home cooked breakfast will be served each morning in our Old Kitchen Gallery, which is home to our collection of Scottish Colourist paintings. The attic floor has its own kitchen, dining room and sitting room so you are welcome to self cater or settle into an armchair in front of the log burner with a cup of tea or coffee. Alternatively you can try the catering options at our Open Studios.
We will provide an optional kitchen supper each evening serving fresh, seasonal food in the warm surroundings of the Old Kitchen Gallery. Choose your dinner options when booking your tickets. Lunch is not provided at the House.
Away from the events of Open Studios and the Curator's Tour, we can recommend exploring the area around Marchmont. From the historic Borders towns of Melrose and Kelso to the incredible historic homes of Mellerstain, Thirlestane and Abbotsford, there are many hidden gems to discover in this calm and peaceful rural landscape.
The Scottish Borders are steeped in history: Dramatic coastlines and wooded hillsides shelter winding valleys and gentle country lanes. Tales of battles, reivers and smugglers reveal the background to the Debatable Lands. Fishing villages, pretty harbours, ruined abbeys and stately castles make up a hugely varied landscape with huge open skies.
There is a private, dedicated entrance to the guest rooms on the attic floor. The 'weekend away' does not include use of the State Rooms, however these will be included on the Curator's Tour.
